The many benefits of a central vacuum system

You probably can’t think why you would need a central vacuum system in your home. You probably think It’s too expensive, impractical and more trouble than it’s worth. One of the major misconceptions around central vacuum systems is that they require major home renovation and tearing down walls, when in fact the only hole that needs to be made is covered with an inlet backing plate, and the pipes are usually fed through an attic, basement, or crawlspace. The installation, when done by the right team, is simple and quick.

While you’re wondering whether or not you should replace your current setup, you are wasting hours of your life using a portable vacuum. Portable vacuum cleaners are noisy, time consuming, inconvenient and costly- often needing to be replaced every few years. Above this, they can spread around dust mites and allergens as you use them. Here is a short list of benefits central vacuum systems have, and some good reasons why you need one in your home:

    1. They are Pleasantly Quiet

One of the reasons vacuuming with a portable vacuum cleaner is such an unpleasant task is that it can be incredibly noisy. Not only is this noise annoying, but repeated or lengthy exposure to sounds at or above 85 decibels (approximately the level of a portable vacuum cleaner) can cause hearing loss. Central vacuum cleaners are far quieter because their motors are in a separate room such as the attic, garage or basement. The only noise you will hear will come from the air flowing through the vacuum and the vacuum head itself. This means that life can carry on as usual while you vacuum- the TV can still be watched, the baby can still sleep and no one needs to yell to communicate.

    2. Powerful Motors

Don’t let the silence fool you however! The motors in central vacuum systems can be up to three times stronger than their portable cousins. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, because they don’t need to be portable they don’t have weight restrictions so the motor can be more powerful. Secondly, they remain far cooler in a stationary location, which means less damage to the motor over time. This means that the motor is able to remove dust, debris as well as deep grit from carpets because of its stronger suction power.

    3. Cleaner Air

This is a major selling point, especially to those who suffer from allergies. If you suffer from allergies then you know only too well the importance of keeping your home clean and dust free. Spending entire seasons feeling as though your head is stuffed with wool is awful and no way to live. The main difference between a central vacuuming system and ordinary vacuum cleaners is that portable vacuums recycle vacuumed allergens back into the air through the exhaust. Central vacuum systems however, extract the dirt, dust, and debris out of the house and into the main unit in the attic, garage or the basement where they are then exhausted outside resulting in cleaner air in your home.

    4. Easier to Use

Using a central vacuum system is far easier to use than portable vacuum cleaners. Because we don’t often have much exposure to central vacuum systems, this can be difficult to comprehend because we think that portability should equate to ease of use. This is however, simply not true. Central vacuums can easy to use and (almost) make cleaning fun! You will be doing the same chore as with a portable vacuum cleaner, but without the heavy canister or upright vacuum. There are a wide number of accessories available as attachments for central vacuum systems which mean that no nook or cranny will go untouched! All of this, with less noise, pollution and packing away of heavy equipment!

    5. A Wise Investment

Having a central vacuum system installed in your home is more than an investment in your health and time, it is a good investment in your home. As mentioned earlier, because they don’t have to be portable they remain cooler which means less wear and tear on the motor. This means that they generally don’t need maintenance too often- owners often don’t have to replace major accessories within the first 10 years of owning one. Central vacuums also end up saving you money over time and adding more value to your property, because the money spent on the installation will come back when the property is sold. However, how likely are you to sell a home that promises to be cleaner than any other?
