Sonos Playbase streams Gorillaz Spirit House
Collaboration Celebrates the Launch of Gorillaz’ New Album Humanz and the Sonos PLAYBASE Through Immersive Fan Experiences in New York, Berlin and Amsterdam.
Earlier this year, Sonos, the home sound system, teamed up with the group Gorillaz to create three ‘Spirit Houses’ to celebrate the release of the release of the groups highly acclaimed album “Humanz”. The spaces allowed fans to enter the band’s virtual home through an immersive experience in New York, Berlin and Amsterdam. The experience was brought to life with the help of the new PLAYBASE, the latest addition to Sonos’ family of home theater products. "Come and bathe in high-tech sound, feast on unearthly visuals, and let the experience take you on the ultimate trip," said Gorillaz bassist Murdoc Niccals. “Gorillaz have always been inspiring artists who ignore the limitations of any medium or format,” said Dmitri Siegel, Sonos VP of Global Brand. “The launch of their first album in seven years is such a big moment for Gorillaz fans and we’re excited to invite people all over the world experience it using Sonos.”
PLAYBASE is the latest home theater sound system from Sonos. PLAYBASE is easy to use, smart, simple to set up delivers home theater sound as well as music streaming with ease.
The main concept for PLAYBASE is designed around the insight that 70% of TVs stand on tables or cabinets. PLAYBASE sits discreetly underneath the TV, providing a powerful sound experience while the TV is on, and music all the time when it’s off- exactly what you’ve come to expect from a Sonos speaker.
PLAYBASE has been constructed from the ground up by Sonos using quality materials and a unique manufacturing process. The design has been carefully thought out to keep vibration at a minimum and to withstand the weight of your TV for years to come.
"When we think about what product we’ll invent next, we think first about the home, and the role each of our products play in the home. What we realized is that PLAYBAR only met the need of the small percentage of homes where people mount their televisions on the wall," said Sonos CEO, Patrick Spence. "We saw a tremendous opportunity to deliver great sound in great style for the majority of homes where the TV sits on a piece of furniture. It was a huge challenge where we pushed the boundaries of design, acoustics, materials, wireless and software, and we can’t wait for people to bring it home."
The PLAYBASE can expand to other rooms when wirelessly connected to your Sonos home sound system, and you’ll soon be able to control PLAYBASE using your voice and any Amazon Alexa enabled device.
"We have built a product that can not only handle the complexities of home theater – delivering open and natural sound, clear dialogue, and immersive bass that fills the room – but also fits perfectly in any home environment,” said Giles Martin, Sound Experience Leader at Sonos.
"The challenge with PLAYBASE was upholding the desire for it to be beautiful from all angles without compromising any of our design, acoustics or engineering principles. We were obsessive in our approach and decisions, resisting every urge to pack anything in here that wasn’t needed, and custom built everything else to find the perfect fit - it’s our thinnest, most beautiful speaker yet."
Apart from its beauty, the speaker system packs serious punch, making PLAYBASE the perfect partner for Gorillaz’ Spirit House, as it showcased just how immersive PLAYBASE’s sound can be.
